Each year in the United States 7,50,000 people attempt suicide; 30,000 will succeed. It remains the third leading cause of death for young people. This issue of "Psychiatric Clinics of North America" will examine the subject of suicide from a developmental perspective, emphasizing familial transmission and early onset suicidal behavior as well as prevention strategies.
