The Politics of Anxiety

The disputed health risks of spent nuclear fuel reprocessing operations are the subject of this analysis which considers both the scientific and the social and political aspects of the issue. The author explores the role of the media in putting the Sellafield controversy on the agenda and also shows what scientific inquiry, in the form of a tribunal (the Black Inquiry), can and cannot contribute to the assessment of risk.
