When Charles MacDonald wrote this history of the great family of the Clanranalds from Moidart, he was able not only to draw on the works of professional historians, but on living local tradition and his own observations from over quarter of a century. With an instinct for a good anecdote, an eye for detail and a warm and gentle humour, he produced a minor classic. This modern edition has notes of explanation, a guide to the places, people and families mentioned in the text, contemporary illustrations, maps and a family tree.
