Description
Covering the scope of current water research from the physical chemistry viewpoint, this long-awaited book focuses on the structure, dynamics and properties of water and solutions. The authors are chosen in such a way that teams treat each topic from both the experimental and theoretical perspective, resulting in a quantitative understanding of the so-called "anomalies" of the pure liquid. Recent experimental approaches, computer simulations and theories provide new insight into the origins of these features as well as explanations on a molecular scale. With such topics as hydrogen bonding, proton transfer reactions, water thermodynamics, structures and dynamics in all phases, this is of great interest for chemists, physicists and biologists.

Person
Ralf Ludwig received his PhD in physical chemistry under the guidance of Prof. Manfred Zeidler. He worked with Prof. Tom C. Farrar as a postdoctoral fellow in the chemistry department of the University of Wisconsin in Madison. During his two-year stay in Madison he also conducted theoretical studies with Prof. Frank Weinhold. In 1995 he returned to Germany and joined the research group of Prof. Alfons Geiger at the University of Dortmund and obtained his habilitation in physical chemistry. Since 2004 he is professor for theoretical and Physical Chemistry at the University of Rostock, Germany. His current research focuses on the structure and dynamics of molecular clusters, pure liquids, and aqueous solutions of biophysical interest.
