Description
This tutorial is designed to be used by business students as a supplement in a decision support systems (DSS) or expert systems course. Luce teaches the novice user how to develop rule-based expert systems using the popular "shell" VP-Expert. (A "shell" is an expert systems stripped of its knowledge). The software includes an educational version of VP-expert and a data disk (3 .5" or 5.25") with each book. Step-by-step tutorials include actual screens and should require minimal instructor supervision. They take advantage of existing data as well as spreadsheet and PC-based database programs, and use examples to show how the interface is improved with Windows, graphics, smart forms and hypertext. A case study approach promotes discussion of VP-expert features and demonstrates relevance to business. The book also contains review and discussion questions, hands-on exercises, and a VP-Expert command summary.
