Description
Alaska: A Land Without Mercy - A True Survival Story in the Alaskan Wilderness
From childhood, David was pushed into the raw heart of the Alaskan wilderness, working in remote villages where survival depended on strength, endurance, and an unbreakable will.
This true Alaska survival story unfolds in isolation-where harsh weather, unforgiving terrain, and relentless expectations shaped every moment.
Surrounded by beauty so fierce it bordered on cruel, he faced storms that could erase a man, a life defined by hard labor, and the weight of a demanding stepfather who pushed him beyond his limits. Between wilderness survival, cultural divides, and silent battles of the mind, every day required courage just to endure. Yet he kept moving forward-for approval, for purpose, for the hope that something more waited beyond the struggle. Dignity was not given here. It had to be carved from pain, exhaustion, and the refusal to break.
Trail of Thoughts is a powerful survival memoir about resilience, trauma, and the strength it takes to stand when life keeps knocking you down. This is not just a story about surviving Alaska.
It is a story about surviving yourself. Why?

I am a builder, educator, and memoirist who has journeyed through some of the most remote and demanding environments in North America. From constructing HUD-funded homes in isolated Alaskan villages to specializing in weatherization and green building in Mexico's deserts, my career has been shaped by resilience and innovation. Now semi-retired, I teach at San Jose City College, where I developed a pioneering Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) program in partnership with Stanford University. In 2022, I was honored with induction into Marquis Who's Who for my contributions to the trades and education. My memoir captures these experiences, and my wife, Marcela Lomax, made many contributions, including translating it into Spanish as Sendero de Pensamientos and many other languages.
