This work provides data on the origins and development of the city in Italy, from the pre-Roman period to Late Antiquity. The entry for each site includes details of: location; status; ethnic origin; surrounding geography; history (foundation, organization, politic-social development); and principle literary, epigraphic and nunismatic sources. A bibliography of books, articles and works of reference is included.
