Reviews / Votes
'No one was more fierce and daring in the critique of illusory authority than Gillian Rose; transcendental, quasi-transcendental, the given, life, event, tradition, all unmasked as hollow pretenders. Vincent Lloyd wonderfully grasps the radical nature of Rose's thought, and in this ambitious work presents an 'immodest jurisprudence' as its fulfillment and extension. His contention that positive law as theorized by H. L. A. Hart can be used to model the relation between social practices and social norms so that we arrive at a picture of 'law all the way down' is wonderfully suggestive. A rich and thoughtful piece of work.' - J. M. Bernstein, University Distinguished Professor of Philosophy New School for Social Research, USA
