Description
I have a hippie grandmother. I'm really glad she's mine. She hasn't cut her hair at all since nineteen sixty-nine. For the girl in this poem, nothing is better than a day with her hippie grandmother-eating wheat-and-honey bread, working in the garden, selling veggies at the farmer's market, and picketing the town hall. But the very best part of being together is the love they share. Flower Power forever!

Reeve Lindbergh is the daughter of aviator-authors Charles A. and Anne Morrow Lindbergh. Her books for children include In Every Tiny Grain of Sand, The Circle of Days and On Morning Wings. She is also the author of novels and memoirs for adult readers. She says of My Hippie Grandmother, "A friend told me that she was attending the wedding of a hippie grandmother. I didn't know anything about this grandmother, but I couldn't stop thinking about her. Once I started writing, everyone I talked to had ideas about the character, so the poem got more and more detailed!" Abby Carter has illustrated numerous books for children, but this is her first book for Walker Books. About My Hippie Grandmother, she says, "My mum was a hippie mother who started an alfalfa sprout business out of our basement, so this story really brought me back to my childhood." Abby Carter lives in San Francisco (where there are lots of hippies!) with her husband and two children.
