Description
This text presents methods for numerical modelling of stress wave propagation in solids. Finite difference methods and boundary element methods are mainly used. The author primarily discusses solving two-dimensional problems with direct application in engineering. The effects of material properties (elasticity, plasticity, viscosity, etc) on the wave patterns are considered. Numerical schemes for solving hyperboloc systems for these wave problems are studied in detail. Many specific techniques are presented for dealing with arbitrary geometries and complicated boundary conditions. Also, a range of examples for validating the numerical methods are provided.
