Description
The "Prosopography of the Middle Byzantine Period" is a comprehensive biographical dictionary of the eastern Mediterranean in the early Middle Ages. It is centred on Byzantium, but also takes account of Italy, the southern Balkans, the Christian Orient, and Califat. The dictionary is divided into two secitons, each with five volumes of approximatley 700 pages, and a Prologomena. The Prologemena provide an introduction to each section, but their main function is to provide information on the most important sources - both Byzantine and others - for this period.
