Description
As an introduction, Chapter 1 concentrates on terminology to provide an understanding of electrotechnical terms and a mathematical background to support the reading of the other chapters. Chapter 2, "Mechanical Science", attempts to give an awareness of the many different principles and laws associated with physical topics: the simple lever; equilibrium; centre of gravity; linear expansion, etc. Chapter 3, "Electrical Science", commences with basic circuit theory, and aims to develop awareness of the common effects of electric current such as its heating effect; magnetic effect and chemical effect. Other topics such as power factor and efficiency are also discussed. Chapter 4 concentrates on basic electronics, introducing electronic components and semiconductor devices as well as a.c. theory and alternating and digital waveforms. Multiple-choice questions of the type in an examination are given in Appendix 1; Appendix 2 contains short-answer questions. The answers to all these questions and questions in the exercises in the chapters are given in Appendix 3.
