Description
This special issue approaches learning from a new interdisciplinary perspective. Human learning can be enhanced with the use of modern computer tools that better manage the complexities humans encounter within their activities at work, in school, or in everyday life. On the other hand, understanding of human learning with the use of modern computer tools can facilitate further development of these complex computer systems. Implementations of complex learning in computer environments provide an elaborate platform for research and development from multiple perspectives.
This set of articles is a good example of the emergence of the field of complexity and learning. Their multidisciplinary approach can lead to new directions in learning and instructional research, add connections among these disciplines, and engage scholars in new ways of thinking about problems of learning. A common foundation for research on learning and instruction in different environments and domains does not yet exist. However, the process of developing a theoretical basis for complex learning has begun, and the editors are hopeful that this process will continue and will influence research and development of instruction and learning in general.
