Principles of Community Psychology

This text presents the principles and practices of community psychology in a coherent, even-handed fashion. Early chapters analyse the conceptual roots of community psychology in epidemiology, the medical model of mental health, and social ecology, while later chapters focus on practical applications in preventative mental health and social community change. An up-to-date, critical review of research is included. The text also addresses unusual but increasingly important topicsin community psychology, such as self-help, consciousness-raising, labelling theory, and school desegregation, as well as the role of behavioural scientists in social change. Principles of Community Psychology is appropriate for undergraduate and graduate courses in community psychology as well as courses in community mental health.
