Description
Metal thread embroidery is one of the most stunning and exciting techniques available to the embroiderer. From pre-historic origins in the East, the skills travelled slowly west, reaching a peak in England with the great medieval period of embroidery. Today metal thread is still used for ecclesiastical and ceremonial items, but embroiderers also delight in using the beautiful threads in more experimental ways.
Jane Lemon has used her considerable experience in the technique to update her classic work on the subject. Illustrated throughout with over 200 colour photographs, the book guides the reader through every technique, with clear diagrams, step-by-step explanations and photographs of finished work. In a comprehensive A-Z format, the book includes:
Finished pieces and articles which have been embroidered with metal thread
Tools and equipment needed, including any specialist requirements
Details of various threads, wires, silks, velvets and other fabrics and material used
A practical and comprehensive guide to all techniques, including information on design terms and period style
