Description
This text highlights recent developments in areas of interest to surgeons practising continents apart. Although certain disorders are largely confined to geographical locations, there is a need for specialists to be familiar with advances in the pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of conditions which may only be encountered from time to time in individual practice. The book draws on the expertise of leading surgeons with knowledge of controversial management issues. The international flavour of the text also facilitates an exchange of ideas and evaluates current concepts with regard to utilzation of facilities and resources. Of particular importance to the general surgeon are contributions relating to hepatobiliary disorders - acalulous biliary disease, portal hypertension, hepatocellular carcinoma, and the treatment of liver metastases. This book is an attempt to recognize and promote collaboration between members of the international surgical fraternity for purposes of medical education and training of aspiring surgeons.
