Description
The increasing need for water quality information and monitoring systems largely relies on automated measurement devices. In order to discuss the state of the art and the future possibilities for this the IWA Conference "Automation in Water Quality Monitoring - AutMoNet 2004" was organised to enhance the dialogue between water specialists, plant operators, chemists and instrument suppliers. This interdisciplinary dialogue is essential for the development of solutions for water quality management. The scientific program of AutMoNet 2004 covered a wide range of topics from leading edge sensor technology, optimal design of monitoring systems, data to information transfer, to successful end-user applications in municipal water quality management and environmental monitoring. After the conference the submitted articles were peer reviewed and 24 have been selected for publication in these proceedings. As a compilation that summarises the state of the art, it will be extremely valuable for researchers and practitioners in water quality management, plant operators, chemical engineers, and experts in sensor technology, telemetry, chemistry, and instrumentation and process analysis.
