Description
Cancer is a global health issue among humans for centuries. A heterogeneous disease that may arise from any site like hypo-pharynx, oro-pharynx, lip, oral cavity, naso-pharynx or larynx is head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. Almost 90% of head and neck cancers are squamous cell carcinomas. It is ranked sixth among all cancers globally with reported new patients (630,000) identified per year. Males (21%) suffer more from head and neck cancers than females (11%) across Pakistani population respectively. Concurrent radiation therapy (RT) with cisplatin has improved loco-regional control in squamous cell cancer. It is now the basic component of multi-disciplinary approach for head and neck cancer treatment. With reference to its high incidence among our population with limited data available regarding acute side effects of RT, hence we planned current project to see the frequency of acute side effects associated with 3D-radiotherapy technique (3D-RT) in head and neck cancers treatment.
