Description
Principles of Medical Law is the leading practitioner text in its field. Now in its fourth edition, it provides a comprehensive and scholarly account of the common law and statutory provisions governing healthcare provision in England and Wales. It offers an authoritative and up-to-date account of medical law whilst also seeking to set the law in context and critique its application. The contributors include many of the leading academics and practitioners working in the area of medical law today, who together offer a balanced, reliable, and considered perspective. The clear layout, accessible writing style, extensive referencing, and detailed index make this an indispensable research tool for practitioners and academics alike.
Reviews / Votes
Authoritative, detailed and scholarly... an essential purchase for any practitioner involved in any aspect of the law pertaining to healthcare. * Phillip Taylor MBE and Elizabeth Taylor, Richmond Green Chambers * It is a tribute to the merits of this book that one, while consulting it regularly, scarcely noticed that six years had lapsed since its first arrival... This book remains a monumental work, comprehensive in its coverage and apparently seamless in its presentation, thanks to skilful editing... For anyone wishing to gain a sound academic understanding of medical law, this remains the work to turn to. * B Mahendra, New Law Journal * This latest text is useful to the Practitioner because it considers in depth difficult issues... the layout is clear with separate parts, chapters and paragraphs for ease of reference. There is a wealth of footnotes and a comprehensive table of cases and statutes with an excellent index. The test of any substantial law text such as this is whether it becomes a leading work in the subject. This seems assured for Principles of Medical Law. * Jarlath Spellman, Barrister, The Bar Review * An outstanding piece of scholarship ... high in quality throughout, well internally cross-referenced and very well written ... By some distance it is the best textbook in the area. * Journal of Law and Medicine * This authoritative and detailed reference work will be an invaluable resource to practitioners, academics, and students alike. * European Journal of Health Care Law * Across almost 1,300 pages, seven parts and twenty-two articles, the book offers detailed analysis and commentary on a formidably broad range of other issues, from the organisation and regulation of health care, to actions arising from birth, to consent to treatment, to the regulation of medicinal products and medical devices a and of course, much more. Here is a field fraught with uncertainties and these too are dealt with in a measured, frank and analytical manner. * Phillip Taylor MBE, The Barrister * Reviews from previous editionA comprehensive and authoritative guide to the present law ... any practising or academic lawyer would benefit from access to a copy. * Cambridge Law Journal * The involvement of different academics and legal practitioners sets this apart from other medical law books, and it is thus an important contribution to existing literature in the field. * Medical Law Review *
