Description
Every year more than 13 million children in developing countries die before they reach their fifth birthday. Seven in ten of these deaths are due to acute respiratory infections (mostly pneumonia), diarrhea, measles, malaria or malnutrition and often to a combination of these illnesses. Integrated management of childhood illnesses (IMCI) is a comprehensive, effective and holistic approach to child health and development in an integrated manner. The strategy combines improved management of childhood illness with aspects of nutrition, immunization and other aspects having significant influence on child health. IMCI aims to reduce death; frequency and severity of illness and to improve the overall growth and development of children.
