Hundru Fall is situated around 40 km far from Ranchi, capital of Jharkhand and one of the famous tourist place of Jharkhand. Here the Subarnarekha river falls from a height of 320 feet and then enters into the Singhbhum District. The objective of this study was to evaluate water quality of the Hundru Fall of the Subarnarekha River and assess its feasibility for multi-purpose usage like, drinking, domestic, recreational activities, irrigation and fisheries. For assessment of water quality of Hundru Fall, samples were collected from 4 different sampling sites of Hundru fall during the month of January to June. Total 27 water quality parameters were analyzed The reported data were in compliance with WHO guidelines, Indian Standards and CPCB criteria except TSS, turbidity, iron, BOD and total coliform.It is concluded that the water of Hundru Fall is fit for irrigation and fisheries purposes as well as drinking & domestic usage after filtration and disinfection treatment but the water quality of Hundru fall is not suitable for recreational uses like bathing and swimming due to presence of pathogens. This is alarming result for tourist coming for picnic and take bath in Hundru fall.
