Description
The first board book in a 20-book series built from a working patent attorney's classroom and
patent practice.
This is Kit. Kit has curious eyes. Kit notices things most grown-ups stopped noticing a long
time ago. The cracks in the sidewalk where the ants live. The way light bends through a glass
of water. The sound a leaf makes when it lands. To Kit, the whole world is one big interesting
thing, and every walk is a chance to ask, "What is THAT?"
Across 20 board books, Kit's Little Sparks builds the emotional and behavioral foundations of
the inventor's mindset, the same mindset Chris Kuczynskihas helped real inventors apply
throughout his patent practice. Book 1 starts at the beginning: noticing. Before a child can
solve a problem, build a thing, or share an idea, they have to notice the world is interesting.
Every spread is illustrated in soft watercolor. Every page is rated durable for toddler hands.
Every book ships with a free read-along audio, an educator guide, and a printable activity
sheet.
For parents who want their child to ask better questions. For preschool teachers who want a
story that maps cleanly to NGSS Science and Engineering Practices. For families raising a small
inventor.
Written by Chris Kuczynski, an engineer for the first twelve years of his career, then a
registered patent attorney, and a co-founder of a preschool. He wrote the Kit's Little Sparks
series to give two to four year-olds the language of invention long before kindergarten.
Try a Look and Ooh walk with your child after reading this book. Go slowly. Let your child
lead. Say Oooh at whatever catches his or her eye. Kit's Big Curiosity is the warm-up. The next
19 books in Kit's Little Sparks will show you, and your child, where curiosity takes them next.

Chris Kuczynski has been building things since he was twelve. He earned his engineering degree from the University of Washington and spent the next twelve years as a working engineer before a new question took hold: how do you protect an idea so the world can benefit from it? That question led him to patent law, where he has spent over two decades helping inventors turn ideas into protected, world changing creations. In 2015, Chris founded a preschool, and something clicked. He watched toddlers do the exact same things his inventors did. They observed. They sketched (in crayon). They built, failed, rebuilt, and celebrated. The only difference was that nobody had told them what to call it yet.Kit's Little Sparks series of books is the result of those two worlds colliding. The series teaches children the foundations of inventing and intellectual property through play based storytelling. Each book introduces a new friend, a new challenge, and a new concept drawn directly from the patent process, all wrapped in watercolor illustrations and language designed for the smallest minds with the biggest ideas. Chris still takes things apart to see how they work.
