Local and Global Impacts of the War in Ukraine
Description
Local and Global Impact of the War in Ukraine, is a careful selection of essays composed by twenty experts from inside and outside of Ukraine. They encapsulate the most important issues stemming from the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. The contributions provide valuable insights into the past present, and future consequences of the conflict in Ukraine in local and global contexts. As the world is radically changing in response to the war, it is necessary to communicate this knowledge to academe and the wider public. The contributors discuss the invasion and its security impacts such as Russia's use of private militias as well as diplomacy and deterrence theory. Sensitive topics such as migration, minorities and refugees fleeing the war are explored in detail. The book concludes with close attention to the theoretical and practical implications of the war on Ukraine as they impact world order and the survival of democracy in Ukraine and beyond. This work was supported by the Charles University Institute of Sociological Studies of the Faculty of Social Sciences, the European Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, U.S. Fulbright Foundation and the Academy of Humanities and Sciences of the City University of New York.

"It is no secret that the world is facing an increasing number of global threats. Conferences such as Local and Global Impacts of the War in Ukraine and collections like this book not only shed light on how these threats affect societies and individuals, but also provide an opportunity to prepare for them. They equip both people and organizations for the future. As Machiavelli once said, "Forewarned is forearmed." Praemonitus, praemunitus." (Maryna Illiusha, Head of the Fate-Analysis Research Institute)
"The current understanding of health is already rather fragile, and today's global challenges place an even greater strain on human well-being. Adequacy, objectivity, and access to reliable information not only help one navigate such circumstances but also directly affect mental health. The issues addressed in the conference and this collection are truly acute and extend far beyond Ukraine. That is why this book is a must-read." (Leonid Gudkin, Ph.D., Chairman of the Medical Scientific Community, Corresponding Member of EUASU)
"In this edited work, Drs. Krase and Uherek have made a much needed, albeit substantial, contribution to better our understanding of the impact of Russia's unbridled aggression on the Ukrainian populace. By their choice of topics and articles they have given us much food for thought. Moreover, they have made us question how events in Ukraine will impact freedom loving peoples throughout the world. And how that freedom and democracy might be protected, maintained, and advanced.
Local and Global Impact of the War in Ukraine
isn't leisure reading. It's a must read." (Harvey Wolf Kushner, PhD, Chairman of the Department of Criminal Justice, Long Island University, Brookville, NY)
"This collection of diverse essays on the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine is essential reading for anyone interested in the far-reaching consequences of social transformations of the twenty-first century. It is the first volume to directly engage Ukrainian scholars and as such we hear directly from refugees, forced migrants, and other citizens in direct solidarity with Ukrainians. We likewise hear voices that help us understand new emerging areas of study such as paramilitary and non-military combatants and rationales for armed aggression; new solidarities among Eastern countries; and the future challenges for supra-national organizations and alliances, and the weakening West's support of European allies. Jerome Krase and Zdenek Uherek should be highly praised for assembling the scholarly contributions to

"This volume offers important insights to our understanding of the unfolding conflict in Ukraine. The wide array of topics provides important depth and nuance to a war otherwise plagued with mis and dis-information in our social media age. This volume offers both historical perspective and an eye to what comes next. It also traces several contemporary impacts both in Ukraine and Europe as a whole. This volume will remain an essential read for anyone wishing to get a better understanding of the European conflict of our time." (Sarah K Danielsson, Professor of History and Executive Director of the CUNY Academy, CUNY - Queensborough and the Graduate Center)
"Krase and Uherek have succeeded in producing an anthology of research studies examining the consequences of the war in Ukraine. The volume offers an awareness and understanding of the war's transformation of Ukrainian society, as well as its effects around the world. The work inspires an enduring academic debate that is necessary at this moment in time. It is an essential frame of reference for academics, students, and global citizens." (Judith DeSena, Professor of Sociology, St. John's University, USA)
