Description
The field of urban drainage modelling continues to develop, as shown by these proceedings, which highlight progress in the theory and application of such models. Around a hundred papers and posters were presented dealing with model and parameter identification, urban flooding and risk management, sewer processes and rehabilitation, incorporation of ecology and socio-economic aspects, real-time control and pollution transport modelling. New features reported included the incorporation of effects of climate change as well as the access and use of data applying GIS and radar systems to overcome the lack of good data as a prerequisite for modelling. Integrated modelling is showing a trend towards more simplified models that are tailored to specific situations, leading to more robust results and more convenient application of these models. In other cases the assessment of uncertainty and sensitivity analyses are becoming more and more intrinsic to the modelling rather than applied as an add-on to model results. Possible results can be shown as a probabilistic distribution with improvement to the information for modelling and process understanding. Following peer review and revision 32 papers have been selected for this issue of Water Science and Technology, which offers and authoritative and timely compilation of the latest developments in the field of urban drainage modeling that will prove invaluable to researchers and practicing engineers addressing the problems involved in the management of urban drainage. Selected Proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Urban Drainage Modelling (UDM'04).
