A brain stroke is the main cause of neurological morbidity and mortality. In a developing country such as Pakistan, the socioeconomic burden of stroke is tremendous due to insufficient funds availability and inefficient health care providing staff. Further that, to cope with this grave problem, still a complete epidemiological data is not available. In order to address this problem, extensive research work has been undertaken to find out the prevalence of risk factors and their interplay in rural populations. A detailed study of literature has also been undertaken to rationalize stroke incidence in Pakistan with developed countries. As of Today, hypertension has been labeled as the most important cause of stroke having a relatively higher incidence in urban than rural populations.
