Description
The analysis of the levels of hazardous substances in the air inhaled by workers in the chemical industry and similar working environments is necessary to monitor adherence to statutory concentration limits and to protect the workers from the adverse effects of such substances. The analytical methods used for this purpose have to meet exceptionally high standards of reliability and reproducibility.
For many years now, the Analytical Chemistry Group of the Commission for the Investigation of Health Hazards of Chemical Compounds in the Work Area has been involved in the establishment of new methods and the standardization of old ones for sampling and analysis of workplace air. A selection from the results of their efforts has now been translated into English and is presented in the first volume of this series. Considerable emphasis is placed on sample collection methods and on analytical quality control: reproducibility and reliability have been determined by the author of every method and checked by at least one examiner.
