Description
BOB PAISLEY still stands at the summit of managerial achievement in English football. A stunning array of nineteen trophies in nine seasons was his incredible response to accepting a job he never wanted - that of succeeding the legendary Bill Shankly as Anfield manager. This year sees the 40th anniversary of the day Paisley took over the Anfield hotseat and his highly-acclaimed authorised biography will give a new generation of Liverpool fans the opportunity to get to know the Anfield legend. Titled Bob Paisley: Smile On Me And Guide My Hand, John Keith originally wrote the bestselling life story at the turn of the Millennium and it is viewed by many as the closest fans will ever get to reading the autobiography that Paisley sadly never penned. Paisley is still very much a phenomenon in the English game. No manager has ever surpassed his trophy haul over the same period of time and he remains the only manager in English football to have claimed three European Cups. Taking over from the immortal Bill Shankly was a challenge many pundits rated impossible. But Paisley proved to be a reluctant genius, outstripping Shankly as the most successful Reds boss of all time.
Aside from his three European triumphs, he led Liverpool to six League championships and brought to Anfield three of the club's greatest players of all time: the gifted Scottish trio of Kenny Dalglish, Alan Hansen and Graeme Souness, not to mention many other legends. Written with the close co-operation of his family, this best-selling biography was first published in 1999 and gives readers a unique insight into this remarkable man's life, revealing secrets from his time spent in the Kop hotseat and alongside Shankly as his trusted righthand man. With reflections and reminiscences from many other football legends - including Kevin Keegan, Billy Liddell and Alan Hansen - this is the compelling story of one of the greatest managers the game has ever seen. Bob Paisley: Smile On Me And Guide My Hand has also been updated with newly unearthed and previously unseen images from the Liverpool Echo and Daily Mirror archives 'There can be few of Paisley's surviving football acquaintances whom Keith did not interview...a source of reference for journalists and others' - The Independent
