Description
Direct-printed aligners represent a recent advancement in orthodontic therapy where clear aligners are fabricated directly using 3D printing technology, rather than being thermoformed over printed dental models. This approach integrates digital workflow, material science, and additive manufacturing to produce aligners with improved precision and efficiency. In direct printing, patient intraoral scans are digitally staged, and the aligners are designed and manufactured layer by layer using specialised, biocompatible, transparent photopolymer resins. Eliminating the thermoforming step reduces inaccuracies related to material thinning, distortion, and loss of fit commonly seen in conventional thermoformed aligners.
