Description
In the context of digital technologies, copying data material is as ubiquitous as it is invisible. "originalcopy" is an artistic and scientific research project that illuminates the possibilities of this phenomenon, and opens them up for discussion with its own means - those of the copy.
The project concentrates on the tension between the transience of digital technologies and the way in which these technologies express themselves in an artistic language of design and materials. In so doing, "originalcopy" focuses less on the results of copying than on the processes that lead to these results.

Persons
Michael Kargl (* 1975, Hall in Tirol), künstlerischer Leiter des Forschungsprojektes originalcopy-Post-Digital Strategies of Appropriation, ist Künstler, Forscher und Kunstvermittler. Seine bisherige Ausstellungstätigkeit umfasst u. a. Stationen wie das Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, Bogotá (2014), die Moskau Biennale (2011) oder das National Museum of Contemporary Art Athen (2010). Er ist Preisträger des Tiroler Förderpreises für zeitgenössische Kunst (2015) und arbeitet seit 2012 in einem Förderatelier des Bundes.
Franz Thalmair (* 1976, Österreich), kuratorischer Leiter des Forschungsprojektes originalcopy-Post-Digital Strategies of Appropriation, ist Kurator, Autor und Herausgeber. Seit 2018 leitet er den Kunstraum Lakeside in Klagenfurt, von 2010 bis 2014 war er Geschäftsführer und Kurator der Secession, seit 2013 unterrichtet er in der Abteilung Transarts - Transdisziplinäre Kunst an der Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien. Er schreibt seit 2007 regelmäßig für Springerin, Kunstforum International und Artforum.com.
