Description
The volume provides insights into the complexity of the historical development of Ukraine's art and cultural landscape in the context of the Russian invasion in 2022. On the one hand, the new visibility of war and the immediacy of artistic response to the tragedy have been addressed. On the other hand, the volume reflects on art historical projections of 19th- and 20th-century imperial, hegemonic narratives in the context of negotiating the cultural heritage and facing the emergence of national or regional museums and collections in Ukraine. Concerning such historiographical instrumentalizations, the essays also address the problem of the acutely endangered and destroyed cultural heritage of the Soviet era.
