Detective Tomas O'Malley had his last days in Chicago include the red light of a laser scope locked on his chest outside the hospital where his partner lay dying. Sandman's bomb had been meant for him. It was at that moment that he wanted Mike Sandman to pull the trigger. To end his life and with it, the trail of death around him. But Sandman didn't fire, and Tomas O'Malley couldn't live the same because of it. O'Malley believes he can find solitude escaping to his childhood home in White City, KS, until he receives a call about a strange murder-suicide in the Chicago suburbs using a gun from the past-a past O'Malley will never forget-the murder of his first partner. The gun was one psychopath's plan to reach O'Malley wherever he had run to and bring him back to Chicago and back to minutia that was his life. The plan worked.
