Description
Injuries to the midface are uncommon in children. The significant elasticity of pediatric bones, relatively protected environment of children, incompletely pneumatized sinuses, and increased cranial-to-facial proportion make children less vulnerable to facial fractures compared with adults. The site and pattern of a fracture depend on the inter-relationship between etiology and force of the injury, and the unique anatomic features of the child's stage of development. This research aims to provide an understanding of the etiology, severity, and the temporal distribution of maxillofacial and skull vault trauma and associated injuries in children and for prevention and effective treatment of these injuries.
