Description
Julião Sarmento (*1948 in Lisbon) is one of the most eminent Portuguese artists of his generation. He began presenting films, videos, sound art, paintings, sculptures, installations, as well as multimedia art in the seventies, and he has also developed several significant site-specific projects. Sarmento has exhibited his work extensively, both nationally and internationally.
This book features works from the late sixties to the present. Richly illustrated with all the works on display, it also includes a project developed by the artist in collaboration with writer James Salter specifically for the publication. It features succinct articles on selected works by art critics, artists and curators; a conversation between Sarmento and James Lingwood; and an essay by João Fernandes, director of the museum and curator of the exhibition. (English edition ISBN 978-3-7757-3529-2)
Exhibition schedule: Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Serralves, November 23, 2012 - February 24, 2013

In jüngerer Zeit richteten unter dem Titel AS FAR AS THE EYE CAN SEE das Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, das K21, Düsseldorf, und das Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, eine Retrospektive seines Schaffens (2007/08) aus. Weiner war Teilnehmer der documenta 5 (1972), 6 (1977) und 7 (1982) und ist auch 2012 auf der dOCUMENTA (13) in Kassel vertreten. Der Künstler lebt in New York und Amsterdam.
