Decision making for patients in the vegetative state is a complex issue and needs an interdisciplinary discourse that combines different perspectives. This book is based on an international neuroethics workshop for young academics and health care practitioners that took place in Munich and was funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Various competitively selected participants from different countries describe their scientific contributions or their clinical experiences. Ralf Jox, MD, PhD, is a neurologist and director of the research project '`Neuroethics of disorders of consciousness", funded by the BMBF, and hosted the international neuroethics workshop.
Katja Kuehlmeyer is a psychologist and research associate at the Institute for Ethics, History and Theory of Medicine and co-director of the international neuroethics workshop.
Georg Marckmann, MD, PhD, is professor of medical ethics and head of the Institute for Ethics, History and Theory of Medicine at the University of Munich (LMU), Germany.
Eric Racine, PhD, is the Director of the Neuroethics Research Unit and Assistant Research Professor at the IRCM with appointments at the University of Montreal and McGill University.
