"Landeskunde", or the study of contemporary Germany, is now a major component of virtually all German studies courses, normally beginning in the first year and continuing throughout the degree. The aim is to give students a thorough understanding of German society, politics, economy and culture. This dictionary offers much information and offers to help students with contemporary terminology, especially that connected with the social sciences.
