Description
Moving South ... I'm not totally sure, but I do believe that Thessaloniki is the southernmost place ever to host a EURAS conference. So, first of all, thanks to our friends from the 'Union of Hellenic Scientists for Protypation and Standardization' (ENEPROT), forinviting us.
In fact, one could easily get the impression that standards research is very much a Western/Northern European thing. And quite a few well-known people do indeed live in this part of the continent. However, that is not to say that no good and valuable work is being done elsewhere. Quite the contrary, and not least for this simple reason it's a very good thing to have a EURAS conference in Greece. And my guess would be that this also contributed a least a little bit to the delightingly high number of participants from the other side of the pond.
A quick look at the Table of Contents also shows another slight change from previous
conferences - while topics relating to ICT standards and standardisation are still very
dominant, one can find various other topics as well. Which is also a good thing; yes, the ICT sector is crucially important, and its standardisation environment has some most interesting unique features. But other issues, such as standards education, the history of standards, ad quality systems are also highly interesting.
