Civil Engineering Materials

This textbook provides a comprehensive treatment of the wide range of materials used in civil engineering. It is written primarily for undergraduate students of civil engineering, building science and related disciplines, but should also serve as a useful reference source for practising engineers. In this fourth edition all sections have been revised to maintain an up-to-date coverage of civil engineering materials. The fundamental properties of soils are treated in greater depth than usual in recognition of their importance as constructional materials. Throughout the book, emphasis has been placed on the factors affecting engineering decisions. This should help the student understand the importance of material behaivour in both design and construction.
