IDW Standard: Principles of the Valuation of Intangible Assets (IDW S 5)
Description
This IDW Standard sets out the principles to be applied by Wirtschaftsprüfer [German Public Auditors] when carrying out valuations of intangible assets, based on views developed in theory and practice. Such principles are primarily based on commercial valuation procedures. IDW RS HFA 16 addresses the recognition of intangible assets and the measurement of value for accounting purposes.
Sections 2 to 4 deal with the general principles for valuing intangible assets. Section 5 addresses the special considerations relating to the valuation of brands. Section 6 addresses the special considerations relating to the valuation of customerrelated intangible assets. There are plans to extend this IDW Standard to include guidance on further specific types of intangible assets: technologies, patents, development projects, software and other rights and permits.
