Description
TAKING THE CHRISTIAN VIEW is a short guide to the Christian faith. It aims to help the ordinary man to look at God and the world through Christian eyes, and to attractthose who might be put off by anything savouring of academic theology. So, instead of starting from the arguments for God's existence, it begins from the obvious world all around us and moves to that 'Bigger World' which, though it lies beyond the curtain of our senses, impinges on our human existence. From this experience, which is the raw material of religion in general, it passes to the religion, Christianity : to 'Christ from the Bigger World', to man and God's historic reconciliation of a sinful human race in Christ, to the business of 'living in the Bigger World', and then to the Christian hope of life everlasting. Chapters on Christian prayer, life-style and commitment round off the book. The author's chief hope is not only to help the ordinary Christian to give a reason for the faith that is in him, but also to reach the honest enquirer, not yet committed, who wishes to know how Christian faith can illumine the mystery of the world and to show how God, as revealed in Christ, means us all to live. A. M HUNTER, following a distinguished career as parish minister and university teacher, retired in 1971 after being Professor of New Testament in the University of Aberdeen since 1945 and Master of Christ's College, Aberdeen, since 1959.
