Despite significant resources that have been targeted at eradicating cancer, it remains the second leading cause of death in the United States today. However, there have been significant strides forward in its treatment, including an increase in the understanding of the molecular etiology of certain cancers. These accomplishments should allow therapeutic approaches to be developed that will be more selective and specific for the cancer cell. This volume describes the newest approaches in cancer prevention, detection, diagnosis and treatment that may have significant therapeutic implications into the 21st century.
