Description
St Peter's Cathedral in Regensburg, known simply as Regensburg Cathedral, is the most important church in the city of Regensburg and the cathedral of the Diocese of Regensburg. Alongside Cologne Cathedral, this sacred building is one of the most significant Gothic cathedrals in Germany. It was built on the site of a Romanesque cathedral, of which the so-called 'Donkey Tower' still stands. Construction of the Gothic cathedral began in 1275. By 1450, the building was roofed and ready for use. The two towers and spires were completed between 1859 and 1869.
