Coping with the Transition

Following Kyrgyzstan's transition to an independent republic, individual households in the country are having to rely increasingly on their own resources to provide for their basic needs. This report examines the range and disparity of these coping mechanisms and the impact of the economic crisis on children in former Soviet Republics. The study also identifies ways in which external agencies might support effective household strategies not just in terms of coping with the transition but also in alleviating poverty.
