Description
This is the latest volume in the "Epworth Commentaries" series. Mark is one of the most widely studied and important documents in the New Testament and is accessible to a wide range of different audiences - students of the Bible, lay Christian readers and clergy. This book gives attention to the social, political, religious and personal background to the lives of the Gospel's creators and relates first century concerns to those of our own, thus giving the commentary a pronounced contemporary bent. The book also shows that as we bring our questions to the text we find it questioning us: who do you say that I am? What is it to be a messiah? What is it to be a disciple? In this way, the author shows that Mark's Gospel interrogates us powerfully across the centuries.
