Description
Christmas makes people both happy and frustrated, especially Christian people. There is a tug-of-war between the secular Christmas with its tinsel, glitter and high spending on gifts, and the meaning it was supposed to have from the unusual birth of Jesus.
Tom Houston looks at a great story with a great cast. The political forces of Caesar Augustus, Herod and the travellers from the east, the religious establishment in Zechariah, Elizabeth, Anna and Simeon, The outcast prophet - John the Baptist, the ordinary people - Mary, Joseph and the shepherds and also the Gospellers - Matthew and Luke.

Reviews / Votes
'Christmas always stirs the imagination, but Tom Houston stirs the readers with reflections from the real biblical characters who surrounded the birth of Jesus ...A lively read that warms the heart.' -- Chris Wright 'Familiar with the Christmas story? Maybe. But we can miss the extraordinary human drama that surrounds the most remarkable event this world has yet witnessed.' -- Jonathan Lamb, Langham Preaching international director. 'It's hard to put this book down, because the imagination is charged by the stark reality of the characters portrayed. Yet this is no mechanical exercise what he does is to give fresh insight and new understanding.' -- Clive Calver "Read Characters Around the Cradle and Christmas will live for you in a new way. Perhaps as never before you will realize that the Christmas story was a real happening that can make a difference in your real life today!" -- Leighton FordMore details
