Description
CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) is at the center of software development for building distributed applications. Distributed applications are designed to run over a network regardless of the type of computer one uses to access the network and the application. CORBA enables software developers to create software applications by fashoning and assembling software components piece by piece. These software components are then stored and called when needed for a program to run. With this type of architecture, a software engineer can create a basic program and store it in pieces so that when a Macintosh user accesses the program, the Macintosh version will run while the Windows 98 user will run the Windows 98 version. The core software may remain the same, with different pieces designed to support the different operating systems.
The CORBA standard is defined and managed by the Object Management Group (OMG), an industry-wide consortium which develops standards for object-oriented programming and applications. It is the premier software development project of the OMG. CORBA for Real Programmers is designed for developers who may be familiar with basic CORBA requirements, rules, and procedures, but need a complete guide for learning about essential CORBA syntax and references.
