Description
Intended for students studying servicing/test subjects at GNVQ, BTEC and City and Guilds level in Further and Higher Education Colleges, this book describes the procedures and test equipment that can be applied when fault-finding on microprocessor-based equipment. The first chapter reviews the principles of microcomputer operation, while chapter two to eight describe the various testing methods, such as board testing, diagnostic software, peripheral testing, signature analysis, logic analysis and in-circuit emulation. Chapters nine to 13 present a series of applications studies of typical microcomputer systems designed to give the reader an understanding of formal design procedures and servicing requirement. In this revised edition, new chapters 14 and 15 introduce advanced input/output systems (including Direct Memory Access) and the architectural features of the familiar IBM PC and all its compatibles, including the Intel 80286/80386/80486 and Pentium microprocessors.
