Description
Let's See What Is brings together Mary Holland's writings on the F. M. Alexander Technique, as well as more than 30 appreciations and tributes which celebrate her teaching and her approach to living the Technique.
Part One consists of Mary Holland's writings on the Alexander Technique. She explores in particular the qualities of allowing for and welcoming the unknown - the essence of change. Among her articles and lectures are: "A Way of Working", "Meeting the Unexpected", "Letting It Happen: Chance, Choice and Change", "A Welcoming Attitude", "Finding Space", and "Giving Nature Her Opportunity". This section of the book also contains her remembrances and obituaries of other teachers of the Technique.
Part Two collects appreciations and memories of Mary. These include an obituary of Mary, an interview discussing her approach to running a teacher training course, as well as notes of activities and procedures she employed in her teaching.
The Appendix consists of a summary of Mary's "Time for Reflection"; a transcript from a Q&A session; Mary's notes for a workshop on the whispered ah; her notes on Alexander's "Evolution of a Technique"; and Walter Carrington's obituary of Sydney Holland - Mary's father, who was also a teacher of the Alexander Technique.
Mary Holland was a distinguished teacher of the Alexander Technique whose subtle, delicate, and indirect way of teaching and being remains an inspiration to her many students. This volume commemorates her more than fifty years of living and teaching the Alexander Technique.
