Description
This collection of GCSE biology questions is a photocopiable pack in the "Structured Questions" series and has been grouped to reflect the main areas of the core syllabus in the National Criteria. Although no attempt has been made to cover the syllabus of any particular examination group their content has been taken into account. The range of questions is designed to suit differing abilities and aims to emphasize the understanding and application of ecological, technological, social and economic aspects of biology rather than the recall of information. The questions are grouped into three categories: questions designed for pupils expected to gain higher grades at GCSE (A-C). These will require pupils to apply principles to new situations and unfamiliar material and may range across several areas of the syllabus; questions of a standard within the ability range of the majority of GCSE pupils and simpler questions designed to provide revision and to test basic understanding of the main areas of the syllabus. In the suggested answers the authors have indicated responses which in their experience, could be expected of students at GCSE.
Besides being useful for teachers, these questions could also assist students studying independently to check the standard of their own responses.
