Description
The Berlin Palace is a secular building on Schloßplatz in Berlin-Mitte and now houses, amongst other things, the Ethnological Museum and the Museum of Asian Art. It was originally the main residence of the Electors of Brandenburg from the House of Hohenzollern, who became Kings of Prussia in 1701 and German Emperors in 1871. Construction of the building, which began in 1443 on Schloßplatz in the historic centre of Berlin, was severely damaged during the Second World War and demolished in 1950 following a decision by the SED. Between 2013 and 2020, the exterior was largely reconstructed following a resolution by the German Bundestag. The new building serves as an exhibition and event venue for the Humboldt Forum.
