RUTH HELYER is Head of Workforce Development (Research& Policy) at Teesside University, UK. Her research interests encompass all aspects of academic business-facing activity. Recent publications include 'Employer Engagement: the new widening participation?' in the Journal of Widening Participation and Lifelong Learning, Staffordshire University (December 2008). Formerly the Programme Leader of Teesside University's Work-based Studies Programme, she has a particular interest in developing such tailored programmes for employed learners.
